Housing

UCI guarantees an offer of on-campus housing to all new incoming, full-time Ph.D. and MFA students who are admitted prior to the housing application deadline (May 1, 2018 for Fall 2018 entry).  As a comparison of all UC campuses shows, UCI provides the most generous and comprehensive guarantee of on-campus housing to graduate students, read more.

On-campus housing provides students with a community environment while they pursue their studies. Housing offers are for one of six graduate housing communities; the housing application deadline is May 1, 2018, and housing offers are completed during the summer months.

Ph.D. students who accept this housing offer will be guaranteed placement in on-campus housing for one year less than normal time to degree (NTTD-1) for their academic program, and MFA students who accept this housing offer will be guaranteed placement in on-campus housing for normal time to degree (NTTD) for their academic program, up to three years.  Normal time to degree for each academic program is approved by the Graduate Council. Students must maintain good academic standing to continue to qualify for the guarantee.

The UCI Graduate Housing Guarantee offers:

•        The security of knowing that you will have a place to live on campus by the start of fall quarter.

•        The convenience of living close to classes and campus resources.

•        An opportunity to meet fellow graduate students from across the campus.

•        Rental rates that are typically much lower than the local housing market.

Housing costs and costs of living at UCI also compare favorably to costs at other UC campuses as shown in these tables from a 2016-2017 Cost of Attendance survey, click here.
