DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is a registered members association made up of German institutions of higher education and student bodies.  DAAD provides young people with the opportunity to gain international academic and research experience in Germany.  Since it was founded in 1925, DAAD has provided funding to more than 1.9 million scholars in Germany and abroad.

DAAD has invited UC Irvine to nominate one priority candidate for the Study Scholarship and/or Research Grant-One Year Grant programs.  Candidates who aren’t selected as UC Irvine’s priority applicant are still able to apply; however, they will run in the open competition with candidates with all over North America.  DAAD also offers many additional opportunities for students to study or do research in Germany which students are free to apply for directly. For information on our DAAD funding please visit the Scholarship Database.

  • Study Scholarships are available to highly qualified final year undergraduate students or those who have received an undergraduate degree of all disciplines for a full master’s degree program at a German university, or for study at a German university as part of a postgraduate or master’s degree program completed in the home country.
  • Research Grants-One Year Grants are available to highly qualified candidates who have completed a master’s degree or in exceptional cases a bachelor’s degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research in Germany.
