Most Ph.D. students at UCI are supported by a combination of fellowships, teaching assistantships, research assistantships and faculty training grants. Because student funding is coordinated at the departmental level, be sure to ask your department about your options.
Fellowships, Scholarships & Grants | Financial support, usually in the form of a stipend or remission for tuition and fees. They can vary in amount and are generally meant to support educational and living expenses of the individual recipient. Common eligibility criteria include academic merit and financial need, although are not limited to these. |
Employment | UCI offers several types of employment to graduate students, which provides not only financial support but also exciting professional experiences and opportunities for career development. Examples include Teaching Assistants and Readers. |
Research Assistantships | Many academic units offer research assistantships to outstanding graduate students, who are employed in the following Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) titles: Graduate Student Researcher, Graduate Student Researcher Fellow, Graduate Student Researcher Trainee |
Training Grants | A training grant is a type of grant that provides financial support to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to help them develop their research skills and advance their careers. |
Master’s students are typically self-supported but may be eligible for these resources. Check with the individual department/program for Master’s degree funding opportunities. The Graduate Division also offers an array of financial support resources, such as fellowship competitions open to incoming and current UCI students. Detailed information on these opportunities can be found on the current fellowships website here: https://grad.uci.edu/funding/current-fellowships/
